  • Former Brit site to be Cleared at long last, due to pressure from the three bryn Councillors the site is to be cleared of all fly tipping material and builders rubble, we have asked for a security fence to be place around the site.
  • Dr Levine's old surgery is to be moved to land on old road near RL Hughes School, this is a temporary measure until a new clinic is built in Ashton.
  • Double Yellows we have asked for the Council to advertise that we are having yellow lines at the Junctions of Soughers Lane and Downall Green Rd, Booths Brow and Dellside close, this is due to pressure from local residents and resent traffic accidents at two of the sites mentioned.

  • Band in the Park

All start in the flower park 2pm. Don’t forget your seat and bottle of wine!
  • Bryn Estate We are planning to have tree’s planted on Bryn Estate, F.A.B have acquired funding from W.L.H and we are joint funding the project we will start at the end of the summer.
  • F.A.B have helped put a new bench at Rose Hill, the funding for this came from the Ashton and Bryn Township Forum. Are there any other places where you think a bench would be of use?
  • Green Bins. Many residents have asked for these, most have received them, if you haven't yet got one please let us know.
We will all be getting a Brown bin soon; these will be for Plastics, Cans and Glass
  • Bryn In Bloom
We will see more flowers this year at Bryn Cross and Ashton Library, these have been funded from your Councillors Brighter Borough Fund and have been a wonderful input. Remember, Bryn was first with the floral displays on the railings!
  • Multi Sports Activities FREE every Monday Evening 6-8pm Ashton Leisure Centre, Including Football Coaching By Latics (Bill Collier) Dodge Ball, Rounder's, Cricket and Rugby. FAB will be doing Arts and Crafts for those who do not wish to take part in sport.
This has been funded by FAB and Awards for All. Supported by the Ashton and Bryn T.C.S.G.This will be on going for 40 Weeks.
  • Brit Site, we have been looking at a development here, a Planning application has been passed for 3 store apartments.
  • More Bins In Bryn, this has come after people complain we have not got enough bins at Byn Cross.
  • New Bench, We will be fitting a Extra Long Bench to Land on Rose Hill, so people can enjoy the Great View of Winter Hill.
  • Bryn Notice Board, we have had the area around the notice board block patched and it now looks a lot better.
We hope to have some large planters on either side.
  • Sefton Rd, I have asked the Eng Dept to look at the state of this road, they have got back to me and said they will do some remedial work to put the pot holes right.
  • Bus Lay-By, I have asked the Council to look at designing a bus lay-by at Langate.
This will remove the bus stop at Perry Brook, which has been a pain for many years.
The lay-by will cut into Edmonds Collins Park, but we will still have enough room on the park.
  • Painting of yellow lines and other road Markings will take place over Late June and Early July; this will be from Landgate to Bryn Cross
  • The development at the former Eavesway site will contain one affordable home this will be discounted by at least 40% to a first time buyer who is registered with Council. The developer tried to remove this agreement but was forced to keep it in the plans
  • Former Brit site at Bryn Cross has been sold yet again; they are legislating plans with the Planning dept at the moment. I will keep you posted
  • I have been asked by local residents to see if the council will put a stop to people parking on the pavement outside the Chantery Walk Shops on Bryn Estate. An OAP was nearly knocked down by a passing car
  • Bryn Railway Station will be getting cleared of fly tipping and the some major cleaning to both sides of the embankment. This work will be done by Network Rail
  • A new barrier will be fitted outside the Post office at Bryn Cross; this will stop vehicles from driving over the footpath to beat the traffic lights
  • We are getting more barrier tubs fitted to the railings at Bryn Cross to add to the ones we have already got in place
  • Landgate Estate Puffin crossing
The Engineering Dept has turned down the request for a crossing on Wigan Road near Langate Estate; they state there is not enough foot traffic to support a scheme like a puffin crossing
  • Three Sisters Industrial Estate
We will have more Yellow lines on the estate due to people illegally parking on entrance and exit routes, we will also see yellow lines going down on the Oakenden Estate off Nicol Mere because of parking issue
  • Spring flowers
You will probably notice a lot more spring flowers coming up in our Ward over the next few months. All Three Bryn Councillors have paid for more bulbs out of our BB money to be planted and we will add to this year on year.
  • Eavesway Development
Wigan MBC have received a planning amendment for the above site, the Developer was suppose to supply affordable housing on this site, they will now offer compensation to the Council so they do not have too.
I have objected to this agreement because the developer is letting the people of Bryn down who can not afford a house or apartment, and Wigan Metro need to act in the interests of the people and not the developer.
  • Fencing finally completed
The security fencing around Our Lady’s Catholic School Downall Green Rd has finally been finished; the Three Bryn Councillors have found funding and contributed a £1000 from our BB money towards the Scheme. The Children feel much safer and the School buildings are much more secure from vandals.
  • Cansfeild High is proving more difficult, this is due to Planning hold ups, but we will see better fencing for the School and Ashton Leisure centre as well.
The Township Community Safety Group have worked very hard to get this far, again your local Councillors have helped with this issue.
  • Three Sisters Industrial Estate
Things are still afoot with the proposed development and we are still fighting against the proposed road behind the late Shop at Bryn.
We are awaiting a traffic impact survey; this will either support our objection to the road or help the idea of cutting off Bryn Rec.
We will keep you updated on progress.
  • Britt Site - We have been informed by the owner of the site that he wishes to build a three storey block of apartments (approx 30 plus) on the former Public House site. The plans have not been submitted as yet, but we will be viewing the plans as soon as they are made public.
  • Double yellows and Bus Clearway to go down on Wigan Road, and the Corner of Soughers lane.
  • Planning application passed on the former Eavesway Garage site, three large apartment blocks total of 36 apartments.
  • Puffin Crossing - Work will soon take place on the Crossing near Bryn Labour Club.
Your three Bryn Ward Councillors have been campaigning for this badly needed crossing on Wigan Road.
  • Speed Camera - I have asked the Council to look into the Speed Camera on Warrington Road near MacDonald’s. I feel this camera vehicle is parking illegally and I have asked the Council for support.
The Council have told the Company - ‘Drive Safe’ - to find an alternative site until this issue is resolved.
  • New Puffin crossing near the former Eavesway Garage site, this will be installed because of the near by development.
  • Alley gates to be installed on Canfield Grove Ashton near the Post Office end.
