We have regular meetings with our Police, to highlight problems in the Bryn and Ashton area.

News in brief
New Puffing Crossing
We will have a new controlled crossing for Wigan Rd (Jubilee Park) thanks to your Bryn Councillors. We held talks with Wigan Councils Engineering Dept' to secure funding the funding for this project and the hard work has paid off. Unfortunately the Community Action Party have tried to claim credit for this.
Bryn Traders Group
If you have a business or trade in the Bryn area and would like to come along please contact one of your local Bryn Councillors; we look forward to meeting you , We need more new members in order to continue its success. .Meetings are once a quarter at the Masonic Hall, Please contact one of us for details.
Seaguls Gym
We have donated £1000 to the Gym in order to help them purchase new crash mats. We are proud to have such an excellent, and very successful, Gymnastic Club in Ashton (Bryn Rd South). This club is accessible to all age groups; including a toddler group during the week.
Allotments Cllr Wilkes has requested the Council make land available for more allotments as over 700 people are on a waiting list. He feels the Council should be doing more to help and support those residents who wish to grow their own fruit and veg
Council Tax All three of your Bryn Ward Councillors voted against this years rise in Council Tax. We also objected to the rise for Policing, as we feel G.M.P are not providing value for money.
The 'Britannia' Site
This Land is now up for sale; no further info' as yet. Your Independent Councillors pushed for this land to be cleared last year.
Grange Road Park Bryn Estate
We have swings at long last on this park, we hope to build on this investment and have even more. What would you like to see on the Park? Please contact one of your local Councillors and we will put your views forward.
Dog Park for Bryn
We have supported FAB to make some untidy land on Grange Rd Park into a dog walking park,. We have planted tree's, bulbs and cleared the land so it can be used by pet owners. A footpath has been laid and kissing gate and bins have been also provided for 'poop bags'.
Tree Planting Scheme
We have supported FAB to get the Council to plant 25 trees on the Bryn Estate; this work is now complete and has made a big difference to the estate.
Byrn in Bloom
More bulbs planted again last year, areas that have benefited are; Bryn Estate has seen more bulbs planted we have done this from our Brighter Bougher Fund. The 'Beat it' Team will be in Bryn Ward in June. Do you have an area that could do with a spring clean or just litter picked? Please let us know.This June we will se a campaign to encourage the small amount of dog owners who do not pick up after their pets to do so, more visits from the dog warden and more doggie bags.
Bryn Railway Station
We have been dealing with representatives from the G.M.P.T.E and Network Rail to have the site cleared of litter and other materials
Bryn Post Office had a planning application for a cash machine outside of their premises refused by the Planning Committee, Bryn needs another cash machine at Bryn Cross.
Telephone box's
We have campaigned to keep all of our telephone box's in Bryn Ward.
Clifton Rd, Bryn Estate, Wigan Rd (opp' Railway Station) and Landgate. Church; these serve our community well.
Old Road Police Station
We are keeping watch on this building and the surrounding land. The building is to be sold off soon and re-developed. We will keep you updated on any progress.
Home Watch
We have introduced a Home Watch Scheme for the Nicol Mere Est' with the help and support of the residents and Greater Manchester Police.
We are in talks with Griffin House and WALH to find a solution to try and improve the parking situation on the estate

Fun Day on Thursday June 3rd the Friends of the Three Sisters are holding their annual fun day 10am till 4pm.
We have donated some Brighter Borough funding to the group to help with the cost of running this great event. We appreciate the extreme hard work the Friends of the Three Sisters have done over the years in making the area such a wonderful place to visit with the family; the new play area is an excellent example of this. Well done to all who are involved and, please, keep up the good work.
Salt Bins we have asked the Council to place more salt bins across the Ward so residents can grit the path and roads in the winter months. Do you need a salt bin on your street or estate? Please contact us and we will try to get one delivered.
Ally Gates Old Road has seen a number of Ally Gates being installed to stop the increase of crime in Ashton and Bryn. This funding has now stopped; there will be a full review, in the Autumn, of the Alley Gate Scheme.
We will carry on the Campaign to get more in the areas which are having problems with anti-social behaviour and crime, but in order to support any request for Alley Gates we do need to encourage you to report all crime big or small to the Police.
Grange Road Park
We are going to have more play equipment on the park this will be funded by our Brighter Bougher money.
Landgate School
Thanks to our input the School field will be fenced off over the summer, this has been a long fight to get done but hopefully it will be completed soon. |
