Just want to say a big thank you for checking up on that litter problem in the park.
I have just received my Borough Life Gary and with it came a little leaflet with regard to a 'Community Governance Review', have you any idea what it is about?
Thank you!
Comment Sorry I knew nothing of this, but Im sure its threw what Norman Brabury and Bob Splain have been doing in Leigh, asking the leigh people if they would like to have their own Council?
I have asked this same question of Nigel Ash and as we haven't got a web site in Ashton to ask questions of our councillors I have come onto your site...hope that you don't mind?
I am not sure how to place my vote this year (and I am sure many others are in the same boat) and I would like to ask you what are your plans and hope for the future of our Township?
I am concerned that as far as I know Ashton and Bryn are still classed as the poor relation. We still have not got our Lift Centre and as far as I am aware it probably is not going to be, and another concern of mine is the traffic situation, has any plans been put forward from the Independents Councillors as to how we can resolve this problem as I feel that without some traffic solution or Towns will never prosper?
Comment Hi Debbie, Thank you for your posting.
This is my view how things will pan out, again this is only my view!
I feel the votes will be spread wide and thin this year with no candidate walking away with a convincing victory, a lot of re-counts I feel, BNP will take votes off Labour like normal.
I have been out and about and door knocking, Im quite surprised how easy people are to engage and talk freely, this has never happened in all the years I have been a Councillor, people want a change as they are sick of the main parties nationally, this I hope will give more belief in voting Independent locally as well as nationally.
My view the main parties are to blame for the expenses Scandal and people really want to see a change, they want to see a candidate that will work hard is honest and accountable! how many years have we been saying this?
To see real change will take one almighty push towards the smaller opposition parties including Independents then we can start delivering real changes to Ashton and Bryn like better road net work, real investment in health when I say real I mean substantial amounts.
What plans I have for Ashton and Bryn these are a few in no order.
Better use of Bryn Station i.e. Park and Ride Scheme
New Clinic for Ashton-in-Makerfield
Community centre
Road net work needs investment
I hope this is not too long a reply.
See you soon
Gary
Just to let you know, (for what it's worth) that I think that the current leaflet from the Independent councillors is very good!
Comment Hi Debbie,
I must be honest I have had no input to any leaflets this year, I have taken a back seat and let the Candidates do what they feel is best.
I do feel they are honest leaflets and say what people want to hear...
The mood is very positive on the street and I do feel the Independent will do well this year.
Thanks for your posting Gary
I know there was a meeting regarding the skateboard park last month, but do you have any updates on this issue ? Is it going ahead ?
Comment Hi Karen,
Thank you for your posting,
Yes its still going ahead, but we have hit a problem with the future maintenance.
We need to find extra cash for this, something we all thought was sorted.
There is a meeting for next Thursday Ashton Town Hall.

Gary
Just been to Wigan going along past Sainsbury's & I noticed that, that police speed camera white van was parked once again on the middle reservation. I wonder, did anything ever coming of you questioning the validity of this with WMBC?
As usual give my best wishes and love to the family.

Comment Hi Debbie,
Thank you for your posting:
Sadly the Council have supported Drive safe who manage the camera.
They have stated that there is a hard standing on the grass suitable for this activity!
I have requested they place a more permanent camera instead of the mobile camera, but up to now this request has fell on deaf ear.
Sorry its not a positive reply to your posting.
Regards
Gary
We have arranged a meeting with a newly formed club in Ashton to help support their idea of a new state of the art Skating/BMX park in Ashton/Bryn, Location to be Selected, Thu 4th Feb 6.30pm Members room Ashton.

I just wanted to remind all dog owners that it is their responsibility to remove any mess that their dog makes, a small amount of owners are getting the majority of us a bad name.
Yesterday we went walking over the Three Sisters with our dogs and a young father stopped me saying how appalled he was as to the sheer amount of dog dirt on the path ways. He was in fear that his two young children would fall or stand in it.
As a parent myself I totally agreed with him.
I have always been bemused as to why people pick up with the green bags then just dump them either by hanging them on trees (where does that come from!!!) or leaving them at the side of a sign post??? Why not just carry them around until you see a bin? After we had spoken to this gentleman I did start to see what he was talking about, & I dont think that it is confined to that area, today I have been on the Heath and that is as bad.
So I don't know if we need to have large signs reminding people that it is not only dog walkers that use all the facilities and that it is the dog owners responsibility to remove any mess. I am sure that if it gets any worse we will be banned from walking in certain areas.
Phew....now thats off my chest, please give my love and best wishes to the family, & I send our best wishes for a happy 2010

Comment Hi Debbie,
I too have noticed this not just around the three sisters but also on our estates, I realy don't know what the answer is! Most dog owners do remove their pets mess and its just a few who are letting the town down.
We have lady on our estate who walks her dog very early in the morning and she does not do any removal what so ever, the dog warden does not start work until 8am, she wins all the time.
I will request the warden at the three sisters to look into this issue.
Have a great New Year Debbie.
Regards Gary and Family.
Sorry I knew nothing of this, but Im sure its threw what Norman Brabury and Bob Splain have been doing in Leigh, asking the leigh people if they would like to have their own Council?
