This web site is to inform Bryn People of what is going on in our area and what I get up to as one of your local elected Councillors.
Welcome to Bryn Online. I am one of your locally elected independent Councilors and my name is Gary Wilkes
I was initially elected as a Community Action Party Councilor in 2003 but was expelled with two other party members in April 2006, after a disagreement with the Community Action Party Executive.
I am active in the following areas:
- Member of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee
- Chair of Friends around Bryn
- Founder member of the Bryn Traders Group
I have lived in Bryn for over 30 years, I am happily married to Adele and we have two children Thomas and Rachele.
I work full time for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust in the Estates Department.
My involvement with politics started four years ago because of the issue surrounding Bryn Rec’ and the developer Redrow Homes. New Labour was just not listening to the Bryn People.
What Do I Stand For?
In my opinion too many people are involved in politics for the wrong reasons; I want to break the mould.
I want to put the “unity” back into the Community, I believe where there is unity there is strength.
I am an active environmentalist and I will oppose the development of our green field sites and protect our heritage.
I am against the over development of our town.
I will oppose spending cuts in local services and will campaign for better policing on our streets, including a “zero tolerance” on anti-social behaviour.
I aim to provide the younger generation with additional sports and recreational facilities to enrich their lives and to encourage discipline and responsibility.
I support public transport and a fair deal for our Pensioners. |
